This is the first time for this meme: Thinking outside the box from Cuddles on the Couch(for whatever reason, I am having trouble copy/pasting anything from her site) and Cheeky Monkey Preschool wanted to partake-even tho I am literally only about 4 days into this.

Today's topic is to discuss if we came up with a creative option for our work boxes, if we have space issues and where our system is.

Ok, first off, since we just started using them today-I haven't even had an opp to finish all my charts, numbers and what have you. I did however, get some cards made up for my All About Spelling program, SpellQuizzer and time clocks (I got that from Cuddles too).

I made the AAS cards because I didn't want to throw my Instructor's guide into the box, or the majority of the manipulatives. So I made the cards, then laminated them so that I can write on it (whichever lesson we are on-I made 4, and we usually do AAS 3x per week, so I will have those ready for the next 2x for the week). I also laminated a holder to keep them nice and tidy (for me really) and velcro'd (anyone really know how to spell velcro plus ed?) it. On the other side, I have my SpellQuizzer cards. I also put a velcro spot in the top right corner to put the time limit I wanted on it. That way when I pop it into the box, he knows how long I want him spending on it. The clocks are also velcro'd up onto their own little keeper sheet (again, so I won't spend an eternity looking for the 15 min. clock and so forth) and lastly, punched a whole and added a clip ring. This is stored on the wall by the cabinets with all the goodies in our classroom area.

I wanted to show something I popped into the box for tomorrow-one of our Tangoes sets. I think I found this tiny one thru Scholastic or something a few years back. Anyhoo-he is excited because I usually have these cool things packed into the shelves and forget they are there (hence the instant love of the work boxes-I will finally "use" instead of "plan to use" these fun things I have collected over the years)

Now this one is directly from China-my sis and bro-in-law brought them back when they returned from there, a few years ago-Not a stitch of English on these babies, so we most certainly use the pictures to figure out what to do!

Now if I had a preschooler, I would pop one or two of these in a box (found at WalMart for under $5 a couple years ago-look in the school area) for some great practice for eye-hand coordination practice. I actually put 2 in my son's because he needs to work a bit on his pinch skills (working on tying his shoes, and he is really struggling with it)...

As for space restrictions-yes and no on that. We took over the library area/office area of the house, but it is not super huge...so I had to spend over 5 hours (well this included moving books, rearranging all the furniture to fit) to get it all worked out to fit the new shelf/boxes. I forgot to take a pic of that -it just sits at the end of his desk (about 3 feet wide), but I scooted it to the window area today cuz it was getting in my way (I was working on getting all those cards done)...so who knows-it may be kinda mobile.

I also have a dump box for all the manipulatives and whatever else he is done with-I didn't want the boxes piled up on the floor, but rather have them on the shelf empty to show he is done. He thinks that is awesome (to be able to dump the junk so to speak). This is all I can do for now, as I am trying to listen to Cindy Rushton's lapbook seminar while trying to do this and it is just too much. Anyhoo-thanks Cuddles on the Couch and Cheeky Monkey Preschool for doing this!
